Today when I was getting tires put on my car I went to leave after I was done and my car wouldn't start. I turned the key and got nothing but an orange light on the dash that said security. I have the computer chip in my ignition key and never knew how the system worked and I still don't. I don't know what made it go into "security mode" and I have no clue of how to turn it off. It eventually started but I'd really like to know how to disable it if it ever happens again. Thanks for any information you might have.

First things first.
Try cleaning that little chip in your ignition key with some rubbing alcohol.

My key is clean. That's not the problem. I just wanted to know what causes the car to go into "security mode" and how to disable it if it does. It did start eventually and I was told it has like a 20 minute timer before it works again but I want to know if there's any way to get around the timer if it does happen again.

i think its 5 or 10 minutes. i have the same chip in the key for my 90. if a key is inserted with the wrong chip, the comp will go into security mode and not allow the car to be started even if the real key is inserted next. you have to wait for the comp to go out of security mode before the car will start.
I don't see how this happened when my key was the only one in there. It was fine a half an hour before that. Oh well, hopefully i'll find a way to bypass it. Thanks anyway.
