Help Me Build OKINAWA TPI 350
hello all, been awhile. I am the military guy with the 1989 trans am over here in OKINAWA Japan.
I have now gotten my 350, outta a 86 vette, and put it on to my harbor freight engine stand. The motor has 95,000 miles on it and the previous owner said only it only puffed on start "once in awhile." I have pulled the tinware and given it a thorough look over. LOOKS GREAT!!!.
Ok here is this meat and potatoes....... i want to spend lotsa money, but don't really need to. The motor could probably run for another 50,000 miles with the basic shopping list i have now. Thus would mean no performance stuff, just freshening.
I plan on the following at least. Most of this is from P.A.W.
OIL PUMP, TIMING CHAIN, WATER PUMP, VALVE SEALS, REAR MAIN SEAL, INJECTORS, HARMONIC BALANCER.
Now I can add CAMSHAFT, ROLLER ROCKERS,RE-RING, HEADS, VALVE SPRINGS, AFPR, ECT......
I already have a complete FELPRO gasket set, from oil pan to plenum, INCLUDING HEAD GASKETS.
Some of my friends here have F-Bodies back home, and are saying "lets build a 383, monster cam 9 sec... blah balh blah. Problem is i want to drive it some day, and I live on a island, and in a city. Sub 12 second cars suck on hills in stop and go traffic.
Thanks all, look forward to all replies.

Crap, i forgot to add.
I will be tightening up the tranny. Shift kit and such. I am entertaining a converter swap. I am also gonna dump the 2.73 for a 3.42 set. The factory posi is great, as the car only has 19,000 miles on it. I don't want to be the fastest, on island , but definitely want to lay some smack down on the my sqaudron full of skylines, and MR2'S.
Gas milage is not an issue, cuz the island is only 65 miles long, 10 miles wide

I wouldn't bother with anything that involves removing pistons. At this point, the only thing it "needs" is valve seals, and that can be done without removing the heads.
The other stuff is optional, the main reason for considering it is that it's easier while the engine's out of the car.
Definately keep the build mild in nature, at least until you can legally go over 45 mph...
