Valve Cover dillema and more...
Thanks to World for not telling me that I have to grind down the bosses on the vc rails to keep my centerbolt vc's, i now have to get a set of perimeter bolt valve covers. Now my question is, are there any perimeter valve covers that have an oil filler and a (i think) a pcv hole on the LH vc and another (i think) pcv hole on the RH vc. Can anyone actually tell me what those two holes are and if I really need them(must remain smog legal)? the LH has a hose going to the manifold and the other going to the throttle body.
well, You will have a Driver Side PCV hole with the actual PCV valve In it Wich Will Go to the throttle Body ( im assuming TPI, but it goes to the TB on carb as Well, TBI too I would guess... ) And The oil Filler Cap.
On the Passenger Side You have got Another PCV breather/Tube Wich On A Carbed or TBI car In Stock trim, leads to the Air Cleaner. Now, im not entirely Familar with the TPI Setup, But It should Go Someplace within The Air Ducting as It Serves the Same Purpuse. As Far as Smogging, You need to have The PCV valve Connected to your TB and the PCV vent Connected Somewhere Depending On your tech Doing the Check
Probrably easiest To Just attach it In the Stock position, However. No real Disadvantage to this.
Anyhow, You Dont really need an Oil Filler hole because You can just Pop either Of Said breathers out and use Their holes For that Purpose temporarily.
Summit Sells a nice, Cheap( In price, but Excellent Quality) Set of perimiter Valve Covers that Work perfectly, For 19.95
( chrome too! ) these Have the Two PCV holes and No Oil filler Hole, but are perfectly Smog Legal.
There are also Numerous Other perimiter Valve Covers Made By every company under the sun that acheive this Same Feat, All You need is a hole On each Side to Shove the Related PCV component In. Weather the Covers Say jegs, Summit, Or GMPP, it dont matter To the Smog Tech
Good Luck
