I use 6 point more time than any, but in tight areas I'll use 12 pointers.
(area cut out to save face , than again I've had flare nut wrenches roll right over bolt heads!)
They both have there uses, it's not a preference thing to me.
BTW: I see it's an either-or thing with the ARP engine kit so I don't know what to tell you, but remember with the 12 pt kit your stuck with 12pt close end wrenches or 12pt sockets. They look cool though - I have a set of the 12pt black oxides on my intake. I bought seperate ARP sets, and even some of there 3/8-16 x1's in SSteel.

never really bought bolts based on head design. have used 12 point nuts for head studs. not sure but i'd suspect a 12 point head would give more surface area to engage the socket or wrench

Now that I think about, I guess your right 'ede' then again I tried using a open end wrench on some 12pt pan bolts once.
So heed my 12pt close end warning
Again, like you I never bought them for preference, just for those middle intake bolts!!!

i havent done that before either... but since i need the bolts anyway, i was looking at the ARP kit... and its just one of the options....
i had used the 12pts ARP headbolt kit on my last motor, and i liked it...
i can see me using 12pts on the heads, tin, waterpump, ect... but im probly going to use allen or hex head for the intake and headers.... just cause, like you said, they're easier to reach
it just made me curious what others used......

Uhh, isn't that why external Torx were invented? Maximun application torque transmission, minimal space and stress on the fastener. If you really want the premium stuff, use spline drives.
