Again, sorry admins, but I REALLY want this guy to see this!!

1989CamaroRS,

I have an 89 RS and I'm about to order TES headers, a Catco cat, and the Edelbrock cat-back...how do you like your setup? I noticed you have the bigger headers...how do they work? Do you lose torque because of the engine displacement? How's the overall sound? I really appreciate your letting me know how it is, seeing how I'm about to have pretty much the exact same car as you! Thanks.

I did get tes headers and catback for a z28 350 since a 350 is somewere in my future plans. It did lose a little bit of torque. There not working to there full potental because of the stock air cleaner. As far as sound sometimes I like it and sometimes I dont. Its not real loud but it sounds real nice. I like loud mufflers though and this is definatley not one of them, oh well i guess it keeps me out of trouble

Thanks for the reply, '89. I've heard the setup is pretty deep, but doesn't have much high-pitch noise...that's pretty much what I'm looking for...how deep is it? How is it at WOT? Is there any setup you could compare it to or say it's louder, deeper, softer, etc...I really want to hear it before I buy it, but if I can at least compare it to some of my buddys' cars it would be a HUGE help...thanks again for your help!

sorry i dont have anyway to record it. but the sounds arnt really comparable to the ones they have on the edelbrock website(mainly cause all the cars have remotely high performance engines) im sure its gonna sound sweet when i have a built 350 though. sorry i cant help though im really not sure what it would compare to cause i havent heard to many systems. Someone has to have a sound of one on a thirdgen, post in the exhaust forum. Just dont weld it on and worst case scenario you can get a few bucks for the muffler on www.ebay.com or somthing like that and get a flowmaster for 70-80 bucks

Thanks anyway, '89...I appreciate the effort...just have two final questions for you.

1. Would you consider the tone deep?

2. Does the job require welding? I assume the cat is a 3" all the way...is the y-pipe and cat-back 3" where they meet the cat? Will I need any additional installation kits? I'm really a mechanical idiot, so any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Yes its deep. its all 3 inch from the y pipe back. the cat back system i got was also ment for a bolt on cat and the universal catco cat i got was a slip on, but it dident matter because i got the whole thing welded. You dont have to get it welded though if you buy get either all slip on cat parts or all bolt on, no mix and matching unless your gonna get it welded. Also keep in mind that my setup is complete overkill for a stock 305 tbi. Unless you plan on building your 305 or getting a 350 getting a 3 inch system wont help you out to much. Also try and find some sound clips of one or an edlebrock muffler on a similar engine, you dont wanna buy the wrong thing. Also ask around on the exhaust board.
