Help w/ MSD 6a hookup to a 4-pin HEI needed
The directions suck! I was told I needed some special adapter to hook the MSD box up using the magnetic pickup wires and not the red and white wires that I used to use with the 7-pin module.
So I get the special adapter... which consists of a short green and purple wire that has a plastic adapter for the magnetic pickup cables at one end and spade fittings on the other end. What sucks is I paid $7 and waited a week for an adapter that I all ready had because it came with my box!
That still doesn't help me though because as best I can tell, the 2 wires (green and purple) from the MSD are supposed to plug into the 3-wire harness that comes from the base of the 4-pin HEI that I now have.
Which wire in the 3-wire harness does the GREEN wire go to and which one does the PURPLE one go to?

Those are the directions that I am talking about (the same ones they sent with the box).
It just has a line going to the HEI that says magnetic pickup to harness #### and that's it. I have 2 wires comming from the MSD box that are supposed to go into 2 of the 3 wires comming from the HEI base...

I am a bit confused as to what part you are having problems with, but I'kll take a shot. For the four pin module, remove the module itself and replace it with the 8861 harness (comes with 6AL), then with the long 8860 harness (grenn & purple wrapped in black plastic) you connect to the magnetic pick up side of the box. Now you hook up outside, the black from the box goes to the forward pin in the cap. The center pin goes to an engine ground, and tthe rear pin is connected to the orange wire from the box. The red wire from the box is connected to the thick pink wire that was in the cap via the white jumper wire that came with the box. Is that what you needed? If not post again, and I'm sure one of us can help.

Now I am the one that is confused! You mean that I actually remove the 4-pin module from my HEI? Toss it? Replace where it connects with the 2-wire harness (#8861) inside the HEI?
After all the modules I've bought (3 so far for various HEIs) and you want me to toss one! LOL!!!!
So yes, where exactly do I plug in the green wire and where exactly do I plug in the purple wire? This all occurs inside the HEI base I guess...

Well, you're basically going to use the MSD 6 box as your HEI module. There's two sides of that HEI module, right? One for the spark coil and one for the pickup coil?
So first, you unplug the pick-up coil from one side of the HEI module. Then, you plug in the harness you bought (8861) into the pick-up coil. I don't think it matters which wire goes to what terminal on that pick-up coil, since all the coil's giving off is a magnetic pulse. Know what I mean? Those pickup wires might as well be the same color, there's no positive/negative, or up/down, or left/right "assignment" given to them. As long as they go to the pickup coil, they'll work. Someone check me on this?
You've got the rest, right? (Black/orange, red, and ground?)
You could always call MSD, too- they've got a great tech support.
