They vary widely. There's everything from late-model peanut-port heads to the forged nonobtanium/irreplacium alloy LS6 and ZL1 parts.

Post a casting #, maybe someone can help. Or, a specific application you intend to build for.

There's alot more variation in BBC heads than just flow rates. Many different chamber volumes, open/closed chambers, etc.

oh of course

i'm just looking to get a ballpark range

like maybe the worst heads (the peanut port ones you mentioned)
a mediocre set
and the best factory iron casting?

doesnt have to be exact, just a ballpark range so i can make a mental decision

thanx

They go anywhere from about 175 CFM on the intake for the late-model truck stuff, up to about 325 for the square-port ones.

The best iron ones will do about 275 CFM, like the 781 from some mid-70s 454s.

These numbers can of course be improved with porting.

Again, huge variation among them. Much more variation than stock small block heads. And alot more to think about when choosing a set than just the raw flow numbers in stock form.

Search the technical articles online at www.hotrod.com
and or www.popularhotrodding.com
There is a article there with an extensive data base on
the flow rates of verious stock and high performance small block and bigblock chevy cylinder heads.
