Which cam, there is only about 6 of them out of the factory, not including the hot cams.

86 IROC-Z, Retired for winter, weird oil leak (drains out in about 3 minutes), new 355 other than that, TPI, 700R4, edelbrock headers, removed AC/Air pump, heater plate conversion - no heater (loL). 14.8@90MPH

Next project (think I'm going to scrap the IROC)- mid 80's monte carlo, 383, edelbrock performer RPM intake, cam, holley double pumper carb, sportsman 2 heads, NOS. Hoping mid/high 12's on motor, mid 11's on spray.

Running an LT1 cam in a TPI car isn't the best idea. Yeah, its better than the cam you have now, but the LT1 cams are designed for those engines... the LT1 SEFI has much shorter runners than TPI. But yeah if you can get one cheap or something its a good upgrade.

There was a dude who used to be around here a lot, a while back. His name was TPI S10. He has an S10 truck with a 305 TPI. With the stock peanut cam, he was running low 15s. He swapped to an LT1 cam and just because of this mod alone, ran like 14.5@96MPH.

I replaced my peanut cam with an LT1 cam from a 1994 crate motor. The car runs a lot better and is a little better on gas too. The guy i bought it from replaced the cam with the "Hot" cam before even starting the engine and sold me the unused one for $50. I have a holley 600/ edelbrock performer on m car so i cant tell you how it performs with FI

Slow,

I'm almost 150% certain it's this one:

.418"/.430" - 191°/196° - 111°LSA, GM P/N 10243779.

It's pretty much the same grind/ramp profile as the L98 stock cam with a little shorter duration and LSA. The shorter duration should be very well suited to a smaller displacement engine with longer intake runners like the 305TPI, wouldn't you think? The stock L98 specs are as follows:

.413"/.428" - 202°/207° - 114.5 LSA GM P/N 10111773

I was strongly considering using the same cam in my 305, but I've got flat tappets in the old '86, and it's barely broken in....

Uhh... a stock LT1 cam is perfectly fine for a TPI or TBI engine. I'm running one right now in my 350 TPI (temporary engine) Its duration is about identical to the 90-92 L98 cam, but the lift is higher. A 90-92 L98 cam with 1.6 rockers is almost identical to any LT1 cam, so how can you say its a bad cam that doesnt work? Its not a performance cam, but its better than the stock TPI and TBI cams...

Be patient for a couple months, I'll sell you the one out of my '95, I'm going with the LT4 Hot Cam with a head swap/intake porting. I'll put it in the "for sale" area when that happens, or just email me here 'n there, and I'll keep ya updated. Car only has 55,000+ on it right now.

I installed a 96 LT1 cam (.447/.459) in my 89 L98 last summer,along with a fresh rebuild,1.6 roller tips,9:75 to 1 comp. pistons,fully ported L98 heads,manifold,runners ,and plenum,also a 2500 stall converter,billet servo,and SLP headers.I haven't taken it to the track yet,but it runs good for a daily driver.It seems to have some traction issues now.

Also don't forget to tap the dowel pin in the front of the camshaft back,so that it is only sticking out about .300".If you can't tap it back far enough, just grind the rest down to reach the .300".
