Slipping Balancer? What RPM OEM?

Probably a dumb question, but when a balancer starts to slip, it will read retarded right?

For instance if it slipped say 10deg.... when I set the timing mark to 6deg BTDC, I would actually be at 4deg ATDC?

Crank spins clockwise (from front viewpoint) so the balancer should slip the other way?

What is an OEM balancer good for RPM wise?
I've spun her to 6300ish a few times.

Thanks
-Paul

I'm not really sure which way it would slip since I've never had any experience with that, but I would think you're reasoning is correct.

The stock ones however don't like high rpms. Maddog racing has chrome fluid dampers for $129 shipped, I just got mine this week.

not sure on a max rpm but i'd not want to spin a factory piece over 6000 on any sort of regular basis. you can buy oem replacements from jegs for around 60-70 dollars

I've heard some bad things about Fluidampr....

Might be time to get a new one. I've got the large balancer and timing cover with the tab straight up, rather than to the side.

Depending on where you eventually want to be with the car you may want to consider upgrading to the appropriate SFI spec balancer now rather than having to do it again later.

You ARE planning on 8 sec 1/4 right Paully ;-)

Dude theres been a few aftermarket crank companies blaming fluidamper for crank failures. I think Scat is one. I know on one manufacturers website they actually say not to use fluiddampner or they'll void your warranty.
