Is there a stock 10 bolt rear end with posi and disk?

I have the 9 bolt in my car w/posi and disks, yet no makes gears for it that I know of. I know they gears for the 10 bolt, but I don't want to loose my posi and rear disks.

Yes, there are 10-bolts with posi and disks. I have one sitting in my garage right now (no, it's not for sale). They were available in 84 with the same crap brakes your 9-bolt has, and in 91 & 92 cars with the PBR calipers.

Your 9-bolt's posi carrier won't swap into a 10-bolt. The brakes might possibly, however, I don't know about that. The best thing though would be to keep your eyes open for the late-model style.

A 4th gen rear will bolt right in also, except that their length is greater, so you have to use wheels with a different offset.

Victor Li did the swap one way or the other putting disks from a 9 or 10 bolt to a 10 or 9 bolt (you know what i mean smartass.) IIRC he hated the swap.
If your idea was to get a junkyard 10 bolt and put your disks on it, that will work (see above) but you would need to get gears and a posi if it didn't have one.

What I am looking to do is find a 10 bolt posi with disks, so I could buy a set of 3.73 gears to swap into it, then directly bolt into my car.

About this 4gen rear though, what kind of carrier is it (ie..strong for stock)? Do they come with 3.73's, posi, and disk? Is it a straight bolt in (ie..torque arm same, mounting holes for lca's and panhard rod same, springs in same location)? I can deal with getting new rims. Upgrading to 17" may be nice too.

The 4th gen 10-bolt is identical internally to the later (28-spline axle) 3rd gen. I don;t know whether you would consider that strong or not, that's really a judgement call. They're available with posi and disks of course; I don't know about 3.73s but kind of doubt you'll find any, you might have to handle that part yourself. They are a direct bolt-in, exccept that they are about 2" longer on each end, thereby requiring wheels with negative offset to keep from making the tires stick way out past the fenders and looking like some typical rice-burning grocery cart conversion.

Well actually my 87iroc has a 4thgen rear end. I have spacers for the front and some 2k t/a rims for it but for the time being it has some crappy 82 15x7 t/a rims on it now and the way the back wheels stick out now they actually don't look half bad but i agree with what has been said above.
You would definatly have the ***** grocery getting appeal with anything above 15x7 thirdgen rim wise that is.

Hopefully it won't be laying around too much longer!! The one in my car right now is about to start spitting its teeth out.

I swapped my 91 ten-bolt for an 89 nine-bolt. No I'm not crazy. The 10-bolt disc brakes went right on the 9-bolt, because they were both PBR calipers. 4th gen rear ends are 2.73, 3.23 (automatic), or 3.42 (all sticks) only.

ROB if you want 3.73 gears I know a place that will make 3.70 gears for your 9 bolt. Its reider racing. Phone # 1-800-356-1330. I think they sell them for $299. Its cheaper and eaiser than finding a 10 bolt posi with disc's. 3.70's are very close to 3.73's that you won't know the difference.

I just discovered that TPIS also sell them in 3.73 gears for the 9 bolt. Although theres cost $495, yet it comes with an install kit.

Axle/Gears: 3.73 Moser 12-bolt
Most 1983 & 1984 Z28's and Trans Ams with the L69 engine option came with 4-wheel discs and a 3.73 ratio limited slip differential, in case you didn't know.

4-wheel disc equipped 10 bolts have been available in every year of third-gen with possible exception to 1989 models. The best configurations are found on 1989-1992 applications with the PBR calipers.

See: http://www.isthq.com/~dan/10bolt.html
and see: http://www.isthq.com/~dan/1LEbrake.html

You can reuse your PBR calipers if you buy the proper bracket for a 1989-up application, by the way. I upgraded my original 1984 housing to 1991 calipers & rotors, as well as adding a 1999 SLP Firehawk sourced Torsen differential and Moser 28 spline axles. Works like a charm!
