flexplate/starter question.....

A person I know just picked up an 84 305 w/o a flexplate.
I have an old 14" one off my 454 kicking around. I know the 14" take the staggered starter bolt mounts.....but my question is

Does an 84 block have the dual starter mounts for straight across and staggered? and if it WILL work, should the weight be knocked off the flexplate.....or will it make no difference if it is left on?

Thanks

Yes the 84 block will accomodate the 14" starter. The car may not though.

The weight on a 454 flex plate will make a 305 vibrate enough to shake your teeth out.

As cheap as a flex plate is, I'd keep the 454 one intact and just let him get a new one.
