Starter wiring questions!!.........

Moving this topic over hear, cause noone replied in the TPI board.

I wired my starter a little different than the factory.

I bought a street wires power block. Then un-hooked all wires going to starter. I then cut the + batt. cable and ran it to the power block and also ran the 3 starter wires to the power block (that way NO wires are between headers and block). Then I ran a 4 guage cable from back of the power block to arround the back side of the header and to the starter (along with the solenoid switch wire ).

So, now there are no wires at all between block and header.

My question, is how long do the fusable links need to be (3 BIG post wires that are now going to power block) ?

What would the possible ill effects be if I dont use fuable links on those wires?

Any thoughts?

You need the fusible links; they prevent the car from burning down in the event that one of those big red battery feed wires shorts to the chassis and starts smoking.

The links should be around 9" long or so, exact length isn't critical. They should be made out of either fusible link wire (duh) if you can get it, or regular wire 3 gauges smaller than the wires they protect. Sicne those big wires are either #10 or #12, #14 or #16 would be a good size to make fusible links out of if you have to substitute.

You'll only need fusible links on the wires that originally had them - the 2 or 3 smaller (10 or 12 gauge) wires originally off the large starter terminal. Whatever the stock length was should be fine, prolly 4-6 inches.
The large cables from the battery, and to the starter won't require them.
