I built the 302
I built the 302
I put a L99 3.00 stroke crank in a 350 block from a 91 formula. This thing is better than I thought. I did not want a big torquer engine because I don't want to ever brake my 12 bolt or T56 6 speed. This engine has 11.1 to 1 compression (220psi cranking pressure), idles almost smooth at 800 rpm's. It never pings on 92 octane and I have a very good anti detonation system than I have not yet caught having to retard. (I intentionally put too much timing in once just to make sure it was working right). This is thanks to the 6.25 inch rods mostly. So much for those who thought this engine would have no bottom end. The TPI solved that problem. It runs 13.2 on street tires and I'm still using the stock 305 prom. My first tank of gas taking it easy to break in the engine got 23.6 mpg, about 1/3 highway and 2/3 back roads. I haven't been taking it very easy since and have not been below 20.5 mpg yet. I even had to take out the 22# injectors and go down to 21# injectors. Throttle response is razor sharp and it lugs along in 6th gear at 1500 rpm's very happily. If anyone wants anymore details email me. I had to work alot of bugs out to make this happen, I can save you alot of time.
