Fuel lines - power mirror repair
Fuel lines - power mirror repair
Behind my fuel filter, which with the 305TBI is located rear of the driver, my "formed" fuel lines are attached to flexible housing to make a twist in the line, and then return to "formed."
Is this original? Or is this a repair job?
Also, how can I repair a power mirror that will move up/down but not side-to-side without actually pushing on the mirror?
How do I make sure it's actually the mirror and not wiring and then how do you go about removing the mirror from the exterior housing?
Thanks

Hmmmmmm. As far as why your mirror won't pivot side to side, I guess it could be either stripped drive screws in the motor assembly, or it could be bad contacts on your switch. Unless you hear some funky sounds when it tries to move side to side, I'd lay my money on it being bad contacts in the switch. You can get a new switch fairly cheap from the GM dealership. If you end up needing to take the mirror apart, tilt it upward or downward as far as you can, then look behind the mirror and you'll see where the mirror and its backing is attached in the center by a little pot metal crossbar looking thing. What you have to do is use a thin flatblade screwdriver and very carefully pop this crossbar out of the center. The drive screws will slide out when you detach the center piece. Once you do this, you can get to all the screws that mount the motor inside the housing. I figured out how to take them apart on a set of power mirrors I bought to replace my original mirrors. One of them had a dented housing, so I had to swap it into my original housing(cable housings are the same as power). When you go to put the mirror back together, you can pop the crossbar piece back in using the palm of your hand and pressing a little firmly. Oh yeah, on your fuel lines, there's a section of rubber hose back by the rear axle that's a factory piece. It should have threaded fittings at each end where it attaches to the metal lines. If it's done up with garden hose clamps, then it's probably a repair job.

Thanks a lot Pat.
So the original "flexi-lines" as I call them, should have no outise clamps on them at all?
Actually, as the car has been sitting in storage since August, this area has shown signs of very, very slow leakage. It only occurs when I store the car, not during my driving months.
I'll remove these parts and replace them with original parts.
