Code 36... Need some help, please!
Code 36... Need some help, please!
Here's what I've tried so far based on the posts I've read...
Replaced both the maf burnoff and maf power relays, made sure the connections were tight and clean, replaced the maf sensor and the 5-pin connector, checked the setting on new TPS,(.54vdc). The car seems to be running fine, although occasionally, a couple minutes after starting it, it will hiccup under light throttle and then it runs rough and barely idles. If I shut it off for 30 seconds or so, it fires right up idles at 1200-1300rpm, settles down and runs fine after that. I saw a post where Lord Vader mentioned that the oil pressure switch on the back of the block can cause a false code, however, my fuel pump dosn't run on after I shut the car off so I don't think that's the problem.
What have I overlooked? Whats left to check? Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

you did not mention if you disconnected the battery. If you dont disconnect the battery all the codes will remain. Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of seconds and connect it back up and the codes may stop showing up. I had the 36 code on my car when i first got it and replaced the burnoff and burn on relays and the codes have not showed up in two years. Good luck you may have overlooked including that in your post but I hope that is all you overlooked when replacing the relays. i think you pretty much did everything right unless the MAF sensor is gone(expensive to replace) good luck. Ken,
Check the card edge and ground wire connections at the ECM. The ECM operates the MAF burnoff relay coil directly, with the source of burnoff power directly from the fuel pump fuse.
If the code remains after reinitializing the ECM, you might still have a defective MAF burnoff relay, MAF power relay NC contact, wiring at the burnoff relay socket, or wiring between the relay and MAF or relay and ECM. There really isn't much else in the circuit.
If you study the circuit, you can see how BOTH relays need to operate to allow MAF burnoff:
