Insurance question - Engine related.... technically.

Quick question.

I'm shopping around for a '91 RS Camaro. So I was curious, are insurance rates for the V8 optioned cars considerably higher than the standard V6's?

I've heard from numerous people that most "sports" cars of similar brand but different engines usually get the same rates anyways. Aparently the insurance attitude is "a sports car is a sports car"

Another quickie, generally how much of a discount does the "good student discount" give you?

i dont know about v6 to v8 but from 305 tbi to 350 tpi was a very large difference...
good student discount saves you a little, not sure how much cause through my dad i get like 4 other discounts too, like multiple cars and whatnot

Allstate goes by your driving record, not so much how big a engine you have.

I'm more concerned with the transition from 189 V6 to 305 TBI V8. A Z/28 is out of the question right now.

My Farmers policy goes by the yr make and model. They could care less other than my agent is an old hot-rodder.
Back when I was in school and on my mothers policy at state farm the good student disc. was 25% on top of multiple car and her good driver disc.

Instead of guessing, why not just check it out. You can use www.insweb.com to get quotes from a few companies by just entering a bunch of info in, then try all the cars you want.
For me it wasn't completely accurate, but i probably didn't have my driving history completely honest. But it was a good way to get perspective on the insurance differences between different years and options (engine, roof vs. no roof, etc.)
If you're leary of giving your personal info. I wouldn't worry. Nobody has bothered me since i used it, no extra junk email or phone calls.
