AFR heads question

When is it appropriate to run AFR heads bigger than 195cc?

Thanks,
Jason

When more air flow is needed, bigger cubes, higher RPM. Intake ports when too big lose velocity, causing a loss in low end when improperly used on incorrect motors.

What are you thinking of doing?

I don't have any plans personally that would call for anything bigger than the 195cc heads. I just wonder what scenario woudl make the 210cc heads streetable. I know they are entry level HUGE, but was just curious.

Anybody use them before?

Thanks,
Jason

I used the 195s in the motor pictured w/ specs in my sig. There was just recently a guy asking about 210s on his 383. Many people have used them on 383ci+ motors

I am going to use a new set of 210s on my 406 im building, unless I come accross a set of 190/195s for a good price.

AFR says: The exceptional flow characteristics, 23º valve angle, and standard valve spacing make this the perfect head for 350 to 400 cid engines in bracket drag cars, sportsman oval trackers, and highly modified street class cars operating between 3000 and 7500 rpm (higher rpm ranges possible depending on combination of parts).

I would use the 210s on a 383 that is very aggressive or anything over 400 CID. For that matter, if you are going with some form of forced induction, I doubt you could go wrong with the larger heads.

Torque Loss?

With so many items there's the caveat about torque loss below a certain rpm, in this case 3000. How much is one "losing"? Is it less than, say what a stock 305 has in that range?

Thanks,
Jason
