why is my power steering pump pulley so damn hard to get on???

Axle/Gears: 10-bolt w/3.73s
why is my power steering pump pulley so damn hard to get on???
what the hell is the dtory woth the pulley for the power steering pump? i have been trying to get that god damn thing for like 20 minutes...what a bitch.
does anyone know of any tricks? any suggestions?

There's a special tool for that. It looks sort of like a crow's-foot wrench, that grabs the pulley by that groove around the hub, and pulls it off. Don't try to get it off without one, you'll just end up destroying stuff.
Auto Zone and Kragen and others all "rent" the pullers for free. Just go get one, it takes about 30 seconds to get one off with the tool. It also comes with a tool to put it back on without any beating.

There are threads inside the power steering pump shaft, IIRC they are 3/8" SAE. Then you can just use a nut and washer to 'pull' the pulley back onto the pump shaft by holding the bolt after you thread it in, and turning the nut. The washer needs to be big enough to fit over the front of the pulley, not slip down inside it.
RB is right about taking it off, you have to have the tool.

well, good thing that i have friends that work at the local GM dealership. i just took it over there and they had the special tool. thanks though for the info.
