HEy this is really buggin me.....

it just started as the weather as gotten colder and it keeps gettin worse. when i let out the clutch and my car starts to move it makes a moaning noise coming from the rear of the car. it only does it at low rpm like 1200 to 1500. then its gone. i hope its not the rear end. im hoping it might just be brakes sticking. or someone said fuel pumps make a moaning noise when they are goin. and i got the car in august and i dont think the guy before replaced it and i havent. let me know what u think. thanx guys

What do you know of the history of your clutch? Mine would occasionally make such a noise for the last 2000 or so miles before I pulled my engine. Does it only occur when the clutch is partially depressed? It could also be related to your brakes if the noise only occurs after you have just stopped. I tend to think that it has nothing to do with your fuel pump, since you seem to correlate the noise with clutch, stopping, or engine speed. The fuel pump produces a constant 60 psi, I believe, which is regulated to 47 psi in stock configuration, if you do have a TPI system. TBI is the same, but the pressure is much lower. Your fuel pump moves a lot more fuel than your engine uses, and its speed remains the same at all engine RPMs and loadings. If you are unsure about your pump, as I was about mine (someone told me that a TBI pump (9-13 psi) could be used in a TPI retrofit, and the pumps look exactly the same externally), you can procure a very useful fuel pressure gauge made by Actron from Sears or Autozone (there may be other distributors) for about $30. Another really nifty tool I have found only at Sears is an injector pulsing device which can pulse the injectors individually for one full second, or in multiple 5 ms pulses for one second, and indicates output and wiring harness continuity, as well. Good luck.
