Removing rod cap

I have a set of aftermarket rods that came with ARP bolts, and the caps are super tight. Out of the box, I removed them with a plastic hammer as suggested by a nearby shop. I'd like to preassemble my engine with the bearings in and check clearances, plastigage, etc...

What is the best way to remove really tight rod caps after an engine has been preassembled?

Thanks again for all the help everyone.

with a hammer. either drive the rod upwards towards the deck and away from the cap or use a punch on the tabs of the rod cap.

I think the best thing to do is use the rubber hammer. Or maybe a plastic one. I dont think there is an easier way. Slow and easy. I much prefer to tear down a core engine that I am only keeping the block, then its time for the 5# hammer, and possibly a torch.
