This is hard to do non-destructively. I've used this technique to start parts cars that i wanted to pull engines from but didnt have the keys. The ignition switch is located above the steering column under the dash. There are some large-guage wired going to it. There are two red ones, and IIRC a purple, a yellow, and an orange. I forget which wires do what, but one is accessory, one is run, and one is start. Problem is that you have to cut them and twist them, like you see in the movies, to do it. Not something i would want to do on a car i planned on having around.

Starting it is easy but the steering wheel lock will be a bit of a problem.

You could always pull your steering wheel and turn signal switch out. Remove the ignition tumbler and start the car with a screwdriver.

When someone tries to steel your car they just smash the turn signal side of the column. This breaks the wheel lock and then it's just a simple push of a lever to start the car.

In the old days when ignitions were mounted on the dash, they had no steering wheel locks. By jumping the starter wires it was easy to start a car and drive away. TV and movies make it way look to easy. (reach under the dash and spark a couple of wires together and drive off). Some cars take an hour just to remove panels to get under the dash.

Come to think of it, TV makes it look easy picking doors also. Especially when they don't use a tension bar on the lock.

Now opening a car door with a Slim Jim is as easy as they show on TV.

Take your serial number down to the dealer and have them cut a new key.

Also, the other problem to contend with is that the steering column will be locked. You'd have to have a steering wheel puller and lock plate spring compressor tool with you to disable that. Or, if you really feel like it you can take the lock pin out of your steering column.

As cheap as a locksmith is, compared to how much damage you will do to your car trying to basically break in and steal it, you'd be alot better off doing it right. Go pay for a theft recovery yourself and see how much money it costs to clean up behind a break-in and hot-wire.

I have seen people with these cars ruin $200 worth of T-top weatherstripping trying to save the $35 that Pop-a-Lock would charge, and still not get in, and have to call Pop-a-Lock anyway... mighty stupid, IMHO. So you not only would have to face the possibility of destroying something that would then leak water into the car and destroy some of the interior, but then sodomize your wiring and your steering column to boot. For $35. Not a good trade at all.

I was just wondering if it happened again I.E. keys stolen away from home how would a start her back up to get home. I've heard of running a wire from the battery to the distributer to start it but didn't want to with out ckecking it out
