I want to put in 3.43 in the rear end. I have the stock drum brake rear end on a 89 TA. I was wondering if I should buy a whole new rear end from a wrecker with the disc brakes?? Is it worth the time??

the rear disk on a thirdgen aren't that good a brake set up. i doubt if you'll see much if any improvement. i wouldn't do it, in fact i had the rear out of my car last summer and have a extra disk rear laying around and never swaped.

Th early style disk brakes absolutely sucked. I would not downgrade from drums to those, which came on 10-bolts before they started using the 9-bolt, and on all the 9-bolts. There was some sort of modification / retrofit done to the pistons that involved the parking brake, it helped but was far from a cure. If you want to do a rear disk swap and have it be an upgrade, get a 10-bolt from a 91 or 92 with the PBR calipers.

You'll spend a long time looking for that rear with those gears, however. Very few cars came that way, and the rears are highly sought after. You'll have more luck looking for the rear itself and then swapping the gear of your choice into it.
