too much oil

Hey guy's, I try to answer a lot of stuff-got one I need help with. 89 5.7, jusy put another new intake gasket on. Running fine, lent the car to my daughter she put gas in it and the guy said she needed oil(it never needs oil) and now it;s a quart and a half high. Seems to be sucking an excess of oil on the pass side vent that goes to the top of the throttle body and it's pushing oil out between the intake gasket and the head. I am going to suck some out but what can I expect. Runs fine otherwise, never had it happen before since I am pretty **** about levels. When I pulled the top plate off the throttle body there was oil there also. Need some input as to what to expect as and end result-hope it's not real bad news. Danno

might be something as simple as the guy either doesn't know how to read a dip stick or wanted to sell a quart of oil. get a quart out of it, change filter would be a good way and see what happens. if there are no other problems i'd drive it and see what developes.

If it has too much oil I would drain some out. Ive heard the too much oil can cause the crank to hit the oile and foam it up..

PS: that was some tough reading, I hope I understood it correctly.

Best do what ede mentioned, unless it's near time to drain it for regular service. Drop the filter and replace it. Usually, a pint of extra oil isn't a problem and shouldn't interfere with the crank. If you're using your favorite, special secret blend, or synthetic, and you don't know what weas poured in there (could be Pennzoil/Quaker - EEK!) you might want to drain it anyway and start fresh.

unless its already fresh, you might as well change the oil.... swapping filters is halfway there....

just be sure the catch pan can hold more then 5 quarts now...
i have a habit of getting the closable 10qt catch pans and doing exactly 2 oilchanges on them.... would suck if i accidently had 6 quarts on the 2nd change... lol
