My engine knocks
It's not detonation, it's something in the engine hitting something else. I've heard everything from broken connecting rod, to stuck valve, to broken pushrod. The car starts, but it dies within a few seconds unless I rev it. The noise is REALLY loud.
Car is a 1987 Camaro RS, engine is the 2.8L V6 MPFI. The car has 185,000 miles on it. *cough*
Is it time for a new engine? If so, could I upgrade to a 3.1L or a 3.4L without too much trouble? How much would a new engine cost, and how much would it cost for installation?
Thanks.

since it seems you have no mechanical skills from your questions why don't you take it where ever you'd like to have them install a new engine and ask them what's wrong with it. as for prices call some shops in your area and ask for quotes. prices vary a lot around the country
