Backfire under load

'89 305 TBI. No codes. No discernable vacuum leaks.

History: Had a bad injector, put fuel in the crankcase. I replaced the injector and changed oil. Thankfully, it seems so far, there was no rod bearing damage.

It did get a nasty miss out of the ordeal, though. It went away, for the most part, with a little driving. Now I'm left with it backfireing if I get into the throttle.

Fouled plugs, perhaps? Could I be so lucky, or is there something else I need to look out for?

If the backfire is in your exhaust then more than likely you are not getting full combustion in one or more cylinders. Definently should check each plug. The problem could be coil, cap, spark plug wires, spark plug itself... But it is more than likely raw fuel getting into the exhaust and exploding.

Changed plugs,(what a nightmare!!!) that stopped the backfire(through the carb) but it still doesn't run just right warm and under a load.

It decided to go back to its' old "warm up and die" ways....and when it dies it posts a code 44.

Being as to how I've replaced almost everything fuel delivery related that I can think of, I'm starting to get that old "it needs a pump" chill!

The only other thing I haven't tried is the pressure regulator.....but my gut tells me I ain't that lucky!
