350 rebuild questions

Hey guys i had a question. i recently got a 350 engine. Its a 87-95 2 bolt main, roller or flat tappet engnie. i was just wondering if this is a good kit to get from summit racing? its part number: FEM-CSMHP760-311. about how much horse do you think this will push out? im going to run a performer RPM intake and a holley 700 cfm carb. would this combo be a good choice with an engnie with stock heads and a moderate cam? Does anyone know what cam would be good with this setup? thanks alot.

It's OK.

I'm not crazy about the HV oil pump or Summit Gaskets, but other than that everything looks alright.

you ought to post a link instead of making people look for it theirself. i agree you don't need or want a HV oil pump and you don't want to run cheap gaskets.

Main reason why people dislike the High Volume Oil Pumps is because they can pump out to much oil before it drains back. So all your oil is in the heads and starves the bearings.

For gaskets I prefer Fel-Pro. It's always better to pay a little extra than having to take it back apart to fix a head gasket or something.

Here's the link if you guys want to look at it. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...CSMHP760%2D311

Actually, it wastes 10-15 HP just to move that much oil.

The benefit is similar to the cooling system. Oil cools, so the more you can move faster, the better it keeps things cool.

I'd see it being more of a benefit on a high torque truck engine that doesn't spin a lot of RPM. But on a high RPM engine, the faster the oil pump spins, the more oil it pumps.

Kind of redundant to put it on a higher RPM engine, don't you think?

the gasket set is made from speed-pro. Is speed-pro the same thing as summit racing brand? what would be a better quality rebuild kit for about the same amount of money? i want to build a 350 with about 300-350 horse. i might run a shot of nitrous it all depends if money allows to build it to hold the NOS. thanks...
