Grand AM question

Can I test the ecm in my grand-am for fail codes the same way I check my third-gen? If so are the codes the same?

Should be the same until like '96 when they went to OBDII. If it has the same connector as our cars, it is the same to get the codes.

Yes, if it still has the 12-pin ALDL (which it should) then you still can check it that way.

It didn't work. The connector looks the same but it has three pins inside the connector, my Camaro has five. Guess I'll buy one of those little testers.
