Fan/PROM conflict
Fan/PROM conflict
Ok, heres the thing. I have a fastchip stage 2. The fan kicks on at 176 and turns off at 166.
I want to run a 170* t-stat. Seems like not a problem since 170 degrees is cooler than when the fan is supposed to come on (178*)
My worry is in the summer...if the car goes over 170* the fan will kick on. I am trying to avoid a fan/Prom conflict.
I live in Delaware where we have cold winters and hot summers. So people with low degree T-stats, (160/170), what does your temp gauge read in the summer?

You cannot use a 170 degree stat if the fan turn off temp is 166 degrees. Think about it, what does the theromstat do??? It blocks the cooled water from the radiator from entering the engine and cooling the engine at a preset temp. If your thermostat is just about closed at 170 degrees but the fan turn off temp is at 166 degrees theroically the water temp will never reach that low of a temp and the fans will never turn off. If I were you I would use a 160 degree stat and not have to worry about replacing your fan motors every year from constant use.

Oh yeah...just to let you know the temp guage in these cars is useless....if you really want to know the engine's temp...back probe the CTS at the front of the manifold and match the resistance you get with the chart on this site, if you do a search you should be able to find it.
