Quick question

I got a stoopid question, ill prolly get a bunch of stoopid answers (and yes i know its spelled stupid) I saw something in an older post about manually shifting a auto. They were saying somethin about blipping the throttle. im jus curious as to wat exaclty it means. jus a quick tap of the gas before the shift?

Thanks

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people.
- Mr. Garrison

I'm not sure what blipping the throttle means. Do you mean manually shifting in a race or just all the time? I wouldn't do it all the time but when racing just keep the throttle down. They might have been talking about the 3-4 shift (or lack thereof) - there's really no good way around this other than to buy an upshift sleeve.

thanks for understanding. Im not sure what they meant either. the post said something about blipping the throttle jus b4 u shift to get a nice clean shift. i always figured just throw it up to the next gear with the foot on the gas.

just curious

I think I know what it means come to think of it. When you've got the gas all the way down and shift up, say, 2-3, there's a brief lapse between shifts - having not driven the IROC in a month I forgot about this!! If you let off the throttle slightly it's crisper but that would be very tough to time properly. It sounds intriguing, I think I'll give it a try.

No No No...theyre talking about when downshifting manually. If you manually go up and down the gears, when downshifting you have to tap the gas a little right before you downshift otherwise it wont engage right away. If you give it a little "blip" then downshift, it engages right away and you can feel it go into gear...if you just pull it down a gear without "blipping" the throttle it wont go into gear right away, it will take a few seconds, then kinda slam into gear. At least thats what it does in mine. I read the same thing a few days ago, tried it out, and sure enough...

Oh yeah that makes a lot more sense. Although you shouldn't downshift an unmodified 700R4 from 3-2 or 2-1 b/c the ratio difference is too steep and you could cause damage. The 4-3 is ok though. Hell, I still downshift to 2 if there's a mustang or ***** nearby and I'm far enough below 70 that I won't overrev...lol.

IROC,

What's "second"?

(Lexx said he expected some "stoopid" answers - I just wanted to oblige...)

What in the world are you talking about? (Pay no attention to that little message below my signature above...)

I'm pretty sure it's obvious, but I wasn't accusing the poster of being stupid, and the question wasn't anyway...

U ROCK,

Jus' pullin' yer chain a bit, dude. I didn't think anyone NEEDED second gear to beat up on a *****...

And I didn't mean to imply that your response (or the question) was "stoopid". Just trying to keep it light. Besides, the coffee hasn't kicked in yet...
