Tpi or Tbi
Tpi or Tbi
Hi I have a quick question, I just did the vin decoder on my 89 camaro and it said I have a 305 ci V8 L03 (1988-1992). How would I know if I have tbi or tpi engine by visual inspection because I dont think this is the stock motor that came with the car.

Very easily. TBI will look like a carburetor...but when you take the air cleaner and stuff off, it isn't one. Of course if you don't know what a carb normally looks like, you might have a hard time telling apart a TBI setup from, say, a computer controlled quadrajet.
TPI will have a "plenum", with a throttle body that faces FORWARD, instead of up. There will also be a fuel rail beneath the plenum that's connected to 8 injectors, one per cylinder.
