Need help, ticking and other wierd stuff
my car started ticking awhile back and it went away like 2 days later, its been like 2 months, and yesterday it came back, slowly getting louder, so i was in mcdonals parking lot and i poped the hood and asked my friend to rev it lightly while i listened, and it was ticking and getting faster with the increaing rpms, then like a dumb *** he over revved it way to much (kids, when they have power at there foot they get stupid) and now when i hit the gas lightly it runs all choppy and sounds wierd, but when i push it more its fine,... then when i let off the gas slowly and hold it right befor it was all the way released it sounds wierd and backfires a lil, whats goin on? someone please help i need to fix it tomorrow.

Overrevving an engine with hydraulic lifters causes them to pump up. That will leave a valve slightly open all the time. Youll want to check for a bent valve.

if you hit the cap and it made the ticking louder check that the cap is on straight, a rotor hitting the side of a plastic cap sounds kinda similiar to a lifter...
