How Much.......

How much would it cost to get the engine professionally rebuilt on a 2.8 liter 5 speed 86 Camaro?

I just had my 383 stroker rebuilt and it cost me around 1700, but I mean it is really nice. They tri- angle ported the heads, bigger valves, new springs and rods, new piston rings, honed and cleaned all my parts, put in an edelbrock performer rpm cam, rebalanced the crank, new timing chain, all new seals and gaskets, they pre lubed it and put a filter and oil in it. So it seems like alot of money up front but what you get in the long run is worth it.

I'm not looking to go crazy, just something that would run for a while. I'm saving up for a 4th generation trans am. My friend wants the turbo 3.8 they made in 89. Those things are beasts. I'll only ever buy GM. I don't really want to go nuts on this though since the 2.8 isn't exactly meant to be the fastest engine in the world. On top of that, i'm 17 so you can imagine what insurance is like for me. I gotta try and spend as little as possible.

If the car is jsut going to be used as a daily driver and you plan on keeping it for a long time then a new/rebuilt 2.8 would be worth it. If your going to be getting another car in the present ones place then you might as well hold off on another engine and see if the 2.8 you have now can be made to go farther. Another option is to get one thats a bit more fresh from a junk yard. Lot cheaper and it would keep you going a bit longer while you save up for another car.
