AFR 190's or 195's??? And w/ what Intake Manifold?

Hey guys. The Z is up on stands for the rear end swap and while it's up the SLP headers, Random cats, intake/runner gasket matching etc. is getting done. I'm really contemplating getting some AFR heads and Crane 1.6RR too. I plan on building a 383 pushing approx. 425-450 hp and torque. Would the AFR 195's be a good setup for the 383 w the 1.6rr, and if so, would it work well with my current L98 350 (mods in sig) too while I gather enough $$$ for the 383? Also, what intake manifold would work best for this setup? Thanks for any input....I'm learning about the valvetrain as I go along.

With a 383 I would get 195s. The best would probably be a miniram manifold from TPIS and a ZZ9 cam or a compcams xtreme like the one you see in my signature. You will see low 12s with that combo and a good exhaust.

I would reccomend the AFR 195s as well for the 383. I am assuming you want to keep the TPI set up and not go to a mini- or super- ram. In that case, the best intake base manifold is the TPIS Big Mouth one. I would recomend the LT4 Hot Cam, TPIS ZZ9 or maybe the larger of the SLP/Summit Cams depending on your drive train.

Current Mods: LT4 Hot Cam, Comp Cams 1.6:1 Roller Rocker Arms, Edelbrock TES 1 5/8" Headers, Hooker 3" Aerochamber Cat-Back System, Gutted Catalytic Converter, Performance Resource Chip, Accel Ignition Coil, Cap, Rotor, 8.8mm Wires, K&N Filters, JET TPI Air Foil, Ported TPI Plenum and Base, All Free Mods, Falken ZIEX Z-Rated Tires.

Best ET (w/o LT4 cam): 14.32 @ 97.7mph

Blade, I emailed you the only pic of my Baby I have outside....I have a ton of pics while we have been working on her, also I have a few pics of someone else's that looks identical to mine. You're baby looks Sweet too, I have always loved Black/Red too!!!

Dan87Iroc-Z and Blade, do you think the 195's would work well on just the current mods I have to the L98 with some 1.6RR's? I was thinking about getting the heads soon and installing them on this engine until I have enough $$$ to build the 383. Or would they be too much for this engine and should I just wait to get them until the 383 is complete?

This is just my opinion, but I would go with the 190's. I'm building my 383 right now, you can see some of the mods in my signature. Anyway I was using the desktop dyno software two weeks ago and for a stock TPI setup with the cam I chose and the AFR 190's it gave me about 408 hp and 488 ft/lbs. of torque at only 2,000 RPM's. I know Desktop Dyno isn't totally accurate, but don't forget the numbers I got are for a stock TPI setup, and I'll be using a Super Ram and Edelbrock baseplate.

I too am getting a 383 in the near future. I have to keep my tpi system because of the emissions here in california. I was thinking about about using afr 190 heads as well. They are what the engine shop recommended to me. I plan on using a tpis big mouth manifold and as&m large tube runners on my setup. Does anyone know of a better combo for a 383?
Thanks
