alright, really stupid question but i have to ask. every once in a while my service engine light comes on but after i turn the car off it goes away next time i drive it. is this anything i need to worry about?

Do you by any chance have the key in the on position when this happens? If so, it's supposed to do that.

 

If it's coming on while you're driving and goes out after a while, your computer is setting a "soft" code. It saw something it didn't like from one of the sensors and is telling you about it. To find out what it is, you need to pull the codes. There is a good article on that in the tech section (its very easy).
