timing question
Im not sure if its my carb or the timing or what. My car starts and runs really rough, vibrations, backfire, low rpm and black smoke. I dont know if the carb is off. What do you think it could be? After like 10 or 15 minutes the car runs normal except for heavy gas/exhaust fumes.

Yeah, black smoke means fuel problems. Could be vaccuum problems or an out of adjustment carb. Do me a favor, go check your oil. Pull the dipstick and smell it. If it smells like gas, then more than likely your fuel pump is shot. I'm assuming it;s probably ok though, just an idea. It;s probably just your choke or somehting like that.

i thought it was the choke to, but someone said it was probably not. I sometimes have to put a screwdriver in the choke plate to start the car. It got mestumped. I had the garage work on the carb before and it worked good for a couple weeks, now the car runs like crap again. Ill check the dipstick after work tomorrow.

kinda sounds like what i was having a problem with...i would have to keep it like half throttle just to keep it idling REALLY rough and whatnot....i ended up replacing the choke pull off and that fixed it for me....but it may b something else for you....i was told to check that unhook the vacuum line that runs to it and push the rod in and stick your finger over the hole and see if the rod comes back out cuz if it does then there is a rip in the canister and it needs replaced....good luck
