Serpentine Belt Conversion
I have an 84 Z28, 5.0 HO, and the v belts just suck... I want to go with serpentine, I emailed march perf. awhile back, but they had said something about the AC and I lost the email, and interest in converting. I have no air pump, my ac is shot, but I want to put in a new compressor for the summer, which means i guess I could buy a newer version like off an 88 or something with the serpentine pulley on it to begin with. Does anybody have any like GM part numbers for the parts I would need?? I dont really want to spend a lot of money... I guess I need the crank, alt, water pump, p steering pulleys, tensioner, and AC Compressor. Whats my best bet for going about the conversion??? Any help/pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

They're on ebay virtually 100% of the time. They show up on the classifieds on this site alot too.

You should look for a system off of a TBI car, not a TPI car. Actually, the main bractetry is the same, it's just the little things that differ, like the steel braces for the A/C pump. I actually have those braces, courtesy of another member on here (you know who you are) that I'd be happy to send you, just PM me. Since your car is carbed, you should have little other trouble doing it. The biggest hang up is the $100+ alternator that you will need, as well as the reverse rotation water pump. DO NOT forget to swap out the water pump or you will have serious problems. It is a very simple and straight forward conversion to do, since you don't have all the electronics to deal with like I had. If you have hang ups with the install, I should be able to help you out along the way. Let me know if you end up needing the braces.
