Question about gears.
I'm getting 3.42's and a Limited-slip unit from a buddy for free and planned on installing them tonight.
Is their any special instructions or maybe a link to a detailed explaination on how this is done
I'v had a really bad day and it's not but 1:30p.m. yet and i wanna go TEAR up the roads and waste some tires to help vent.
Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Dude if you havent done gears your day probably wont get any better................
Installing gears is not something just anybody can do..........
First you have to get the pinion depth right, If your rear has never been apart I would reccomend pressing the inner pinnion bearing off and getting the shim off of your old pinion. Then put it on the new pinion, press the bearing on, install it in the housing, usingthe old crush sleeve. then you have to tighten the nut untill there is no play. install the ring gear on what carrier your using, and put it in the housing. you then need to adjust the backlash(using an assortment of shims) to what it was when the gears were in the housing they were originally...... If that was not recorded you will need to guess, new spec is .008-.012. I would then check the contact patern of the gears, if it is not perfect then you may need to swap the pinion shims around to get the correct pinion depth. once you have that and the backlash worked out then you need to install a new seal and crush sleeve and assemble it one last time.
the best thing I can tell you is take your time or take it somewhere.........on second thought take it to a place that can swap the gears for you..
