Building a new engine... need help...

Ok, before I type all this. I don't want "blah-thats a stupid idea, 'power in displacement'" posts. Their stupid and usleless, I know whats going on there, and that most people here dont like the destroking idea. The crank and rods are free, so I'm gonna use them.
Anyway, I have a couple questions...

1) How much horsepower will a 305 crank and rods hold in a 400 2-bolt block?

2) Will Vortec heads work on a 400 block? I thought they did, until the guy I'm getting the block from said something about a steam hole?

3) Is it possible to build a SBC with the 400 block and 305 crank to rev to 7k RPM w/ a carb, and still be streetable? I dont mind if it has a bottom end like a torquey 4-banger, I'm quite very used to Nissan's, so I can be happy with that. Now, I dont want something as week as Honda torque though. I know it will take some magical tuning, but I plan on learning alot with this engine, and doing tons of reasearch before I do anything. (hense the reason for this post.)

Thanks for the help. Any other input or suggestions would be great.
Chris

a one piece crank won't fit a 400 block two piece will. you'd need thicker bearings or spacers to run the 305 crank. if you're going to spin it to 7000 you ought to buy some better parts than stock 305 stuff. any idea what piston you're going to use? the vortecs will bolt up just liek any other sbc head. if you're capable of drilling a couple of holes you won't have any problems.
