Just curious as to how other board members remove their IAC valves. I had to replace mine recently and found it to be a royal PITA, there has to be a better way. I did some checking and found that a 32MM socket fits nicely on the IAC valve. Only problem was, I didn't have enough clearance between the throttle body and the IAC valve for the socket to fit. Solution: I took it to a machinist friend and had him put it on a lathe and turn the socket down to an outside (OD) diameter of 1.555". Now it fits nicely and I don't have to remove the throttle body to replace it. To check the bore I use a flashlight and mirror to check it and a 12 guage bore brush to clean it if needed. I then remove any loose particles with a small nozzle attached to a shop vac. I don't know if anyone has thought of doing this before, but it works for me.

Remove the two left (driver side) and top right bolt from the TB, then loosen the lower right bolt. With the bolts loosened and removed, allow the TB to pivot down on the left side for easy access to the IAC. You don't have to remove the coolant hoses, throttle cables, or TPS harness if you don't want to. There is almost enough space as it is installed, and tilting it just slightly like that provides all the extra room necessary.

 

Thanks for your response Vader, I had tried it that way before along with removing the whole thing. I just had that tool made because I was tired of having to pull things off and thought I would share it with the board for anyone that might be interested.

A vice grips and a thin rag to prevent gouging does it for me every time. Dont have to remove anything.
