Basic Gas Tank Question
Basic Gas Tank Question
On cars in general, and our F-bodies too, is the gas pickup right next to the level indicator, floating up and down with the level, on top of the gas, or is it permanently installed somewhere near the bottom of the tank.
And why do people say you will collect lots of crap in your fuel line if you let your gas level get too low ? That implies that the pickup is floating on the top of the gas, and never sucks up the bottom stuff until you are right near the bottom.
Does it vary from model to model ?
Thanks

the sender is part of the fuel pump suction assembly. for the dirt question my take on it is you have a set amount of dirt suspended in the fuel, less fuel the greater the concertration of dirt per unit of fuel.

When I replaced my pump, it had an arm with some foam like stuff on it. So it would float up and down.

The pickup comes in from the top, with the whole level sender/pump assembly, and rests either on the bottom, or very darn close. The arm with the foam is for the level sender.
