how do i put a new thermostat in
i have a thermostat coming in the mail and don't even know how to install it. i looked in this book that i have about camaro's but it gives a small description about how to do it and i was hoping you guys could help me out with some more thuro (i know i spelled it wrong) instructions

Well, maybe I can help a little. It's actually very easy, but maybe a little messy.
First, you have got to drain some coolant from the cooling system. There is a small valve on the bottom passenger side of the radiator that you can use to drain some of the coolant, you don't have to take it all, just enough so the level of coolant is below where the thermostat is placed.
Second, you have to undo the upper radiator hose that connects the radiator to the thermostat housing on top of the intake. You only have to remove the thermostat housing side.
Third unbolt the two bolts that hold the thermostat housing on, after removing the housing you'll be looking at the thermostat. You can remove it with your hand by simply pulling it out.
Fourth, put the new thermostat in place.
Fifth, make sure the housing and matching surface on the intake manifold are clean and don't have any old gasket on it. If there is old gasket on it, you'll need to remove it with a gasket scraper or razor blade. MAKE SURE NOT TO ALLOW THE OLD GASKET TO FALL INTO THE COOLING SYSTEM.
After the surfaces are clean, put down a new gasket and simply bolt the housing back on. Sorry but I don't have the torque specs, but just snugging it down real good should suffice.
Then just reconnect the hose, and refill the cooling system.

1. open your hood
2. siphon some coolant from radiator
3. locate thermostat housing
4. loosen air cleaner and move aside
5. take off upper radiator hose
6. move hoses etc. to have good access to it
7. unplug the two sensors
8. loosen two bolts holding thermo housing on manifold
9. lift off and discard of old thermostat
10. clean around the hole, taking care not to knock anything in
11. clean bottom of thermostat housing
12. put new gasket on
13. put new thermostat in
14. put thermostat housing on and tighten bolts
15. plug in the two sensors
16. connect radiator hose
17. put air cleaner back on
18. move back all hoses etc.
19. fill radiator
20. start engine and warm up
21. add more colant as it goes down
22. now your done!

They are making that too hard. Take the thermostat housing off. That's only two bolts. The coolant will run out on top of the motor, but wont hurt anything. Then clean the old gasket off, pull the old 'stat out, put the new one in, silicone the new gasket to the 'stat housing(which is still attached to the hose), let the silicone dry until it fills like skin, then bolt the housing back down. Remove the radiator cap, start the can and fill as needed. Make sure you fill until the 'stat opens(when the car warms up)because the coolant level will drop...alot. when air stops bubbling out, put the cap back on and you're done.
