Serpentine setup question

Was there any year that the V8's had a serpentine belt drive, but not the reverse-driven water pump? Without resorting to an expensive March-type system, that is.

I would love to retrofit my older car with the serpentine belt, but do not want to deal with fabrication and modification to make a water pump go the wrong way.

Or, is there a way to modify one to work?

Thanks!

why would you convert to serp. setup and not spend the $50 to buy a reverse rotation water pump???

and all serp setups to my knowledge changed to that reverse pump.

It's not a matter of spending the extra for the pump, it's the difference in cooling method.
From what I understand, if you are not using the reverse flow heads (LT1 type) it's not wise to try. The heads and block both are cooled totally differently and I don't think the standard SBC takes too kindly to the difference either.

Thanks for the input!

I was hoping there was maybe one or two years that the serp drive was introduced, and the reverse flow w/p had not been put on yet.

Or maybe someone else had done this conversion and would be willing to share their information.

The 88-92 cars with serpentine were not reverse cooled, the cooling is the same, the pump just spins the opposite direction of the crank....

Ok, see that's the kind of info I was looking for! I was not aware that there were 2 sets out there!

Thanks for your help! Now I'll be looking for the brackets to bolt on!
