Manual Fuel Pump Change/Upgrade
My fuel pump is fried. I have an 84 Z 28 with the L69.
Are there any pointers on changing the mechanical fuel pump?
Thanks

the toughest part, if you havn't changed one, is keeping the drive rod up while you install the new one. there is a large rod that goes through the block and rides on the cam eccentric to push the arm on the pump up and down. this wants to slide out as you install the new one. Everyone has a different trick to hold it up. Some use a thick grease to prevent it from sliding, I prefer to use a thin, bendable, metal ruler I have to hold the rod up and once you slide the pump arm underneath it, you can slide the ruler out. best thing to do is get into the situation and then figure out a way that works for you. have fun.

Gruv,
The last time I changed a mechanical fuel pump, I used a longer bolt threded into the front accessory mounting hole to gently hold the push rod in place while installing the new pump.

yeah that does work depending on the block because the bolt isn't through on some blocks.
