What should i do to get ready

Alright guys, i'm gonan be going to thirdgen nationals meet this year. I'm not affraid my car will fail but it does have 125k miles on and it is a 810 mile trip each way. What kinda precautions should i do before this trip.

I know about changing the oil and all, gonna do tranny fluid also, most likely rear end aslo, its been about 5k miles on thetranny fluid and rear end. I like to keep those fresh, well since i've gotn a large stock of syntheitc products.

I will bring all the tools i can, i even got a old tire for the car that i got in a bag thats gonna go in the back seat. ya know just in case.

I dunno what i should bring in case. My car is used to making 300 miles trips every weeks end as thats what the car was used for by my stepdad. He came from pasagula, mississippi to jacksonville, florida. Its also has a tripple thickness radiator to keep the engine extra cool.

The engine is in perfect running condition, my step-dad although he drive it alot, kept the engine in tip top shape.

I do not plan on rebuilding the engine because i hope to get a LT1 in there soon. Hopefully this will bringt he car to a new found life.

But yeah i'll take all the advice i can get from you guys.

Just the usual that you've mentioned.

Check the tire pressure, as well as the spare. If you got the $$$, get the tires balanced also.

Take water, snacks (hide those until you need them ), warm clothes, blanket, toilet paper, magazines, etc.

Just the stuff you need in case you're laid up for more than 6 hours. It sounds like that probably won't happen, but better safe than sorry.

tranny flush, if that’s changing the tranny fluid, I usually do it about every 6-8k miles. But I want to be sure, and well, I have boxes full of synthetic stuff I got for free, so I have no problem with doing it that more often. I know it’s only recommended to do it every 15k miles but I like doing it more.

I've got boxes full of Mobile 1 Synthetic engine oil, Mobile 1 synthetic tranny fluid, and Synthetic Rear end fluid (not made by mobile 1). This guy going out of business just gave them to me, said, “Take as much of it as you can and that’ll be no charge.” I was like cool, loaded the back of my step-dads Dodge Ram up with it and left. I couldn’t just let that deal go, I mean who would.

Yeah, I think I’ll be ready for the trip, going to bring my best friend along since my girl friend doesn’t seem like she really wants to leave her kid behind for 3 days, lol, even though i offered to pay for the babysitter.

Hope to see some of you guys there,
Shane

I've heard you shouldn't go to synthetics if you've been using normal oil withouth using some kind of engine flush first....anyone care to say anything else?

Naw you'll be fine. You can mix synthetics and regular oil without any problems. They even say it is not necessary to get every last bit of oil out before you add the synthetics. Seen it on tv and read it trillions of times in the mags.
