Oil leaking at distributor on my 2.8L

I did a search on the board and found most of what I needed to know to fix this except for: does the intake manifold have to be pulled to get at the distributor? I'm assuming there's a flange AND o-ring seal on the distributor? What is the best type sealant to use on the flange gasket?

Once I've got the distributor out is there anything else I should check, replace or upgrade (i.e. recommendations for better wires, etc.)

Thanks!

I had a 2.8 with mpfi. If you go to auto zone or a parts store they should have a distributer removal tool (bent wrench). Remove the bolt that holds the distributer to the top of the manifold, and then you should be able to pull the distributer out.

Much obliged 85Berlinetta. I didn't know there was such a thing but I'll take a look for one or make my own.

Stay tuned for updates on this topic, such as: "how do you remove a bent wrench from inside your engine block", "is there an easy way to straighten out a bent distributor shaft?", "where's that smoke coming from?!"...

AA,

If you look closely, you'll notice teh distributor cap is sitting in the place where the distributor SHOULD be, but there is no distributor there.

No. the intake soesn't have to come off:

Damn that's ugly Vader. What is that, a Fiero?
Glad to hear that the intake doesn't need to come off...I think. Doesn't look like there's much room to work up against the firewall.
Thanks (and BTW no offense meant if that's your car)!
