oil and Ticking
oil and Ticking
I have a all stock MPFI 2.8 v6 1988 camaro
just rebuilt. The oil pressure wil read about 38-40 when cranked and no ticking, but when it goes to almost and sometime on the orange line you can hear ticking under the hood coming from (it sounds like only one lifter)the back of the engine on the pass side. You can rev the engine and the needle moves upward on the gauge and then backdown again.and sometimes like i said it can be cranked and get good oil p and no ticking. The pump came from autozone,Please help need car to go to work do not want to burn it up.

i have heard that 2.8's with alot of miles on them tend to have low oil pressure at idle, but it shouldn't ever get below 10 pounds. if it is you are definitly damaging the motor. could be that they gave you a faulty oil pump. try thicker oil, like 20w-50
or 15w-40
or 15w-40
