EGR valve
EGR valve
I posted this a while back, but didn't get much reply, so I'm going to try it again. We did the test with the paper clip on my girlfriends car to get a code because here "check engine" light kept coming on. If I remember right it turned out to be a code 43, it's the "check EGR valve" one. Well I have no clue what an exhaust gas recirculation valve actually is and what I'm supposed to be checking on it. So if somebody could tell me what this thing is, if I should replace it, or what I should do, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

What car/engine combo does your girlfiend have??
If its a V8 then it should be a goldish colored valve (round) on the passenger side of the intake nmanifold, right between the carb and the valve cover. (if its carbed)
If its F.I. it depends which engine it is on where its at.
The first thing I would do is make sure the vac. hoses or electrical connections are hooked up to the valve and related solenoid.

Holy crap that looks difficult to me....anybody have a clue where I should start? Another thing is when we're driving the car at a constant speed up a hill (without mashing the gas pedal) the car kind of "shudders" like its being shaked. I wonder if this valve has anything to do with that. Somebody please help me, I dont even know where to look for this thing.

As stated above, I would check all hoses going to it, but if its "bucking" I would assume its all hooked up and working
The valve should have a goldish top, should be a couple of inches around, with one vac. hose going to the top of it.
That hose should go to a vac solenoid, and that solenoid should have another hose going to the intake throttle body.
Keep in mind I'm working from long past memories so don't hold me to this info.
Once you find this valve, try plugging the vac. line going to it and see if the bucking stops.
