Oil pressure sensor or switch? help me!
Oil pressure sensor or switch? help me!
I have a 91 TBI and I just spent $30 and put in the "switch" (or relay, I'm not sure which what it's called) about the oil filter. I'm trying to get my oil pressure guage to stop falling to 0 every time i stop or step off the gas. Well I'm reading around and understand that I need to replace the one next to the distributor. Someone help me and finally end my confusion. Which is what of the two? Thanks!

I had the same prob on my car too. After I changed the oil pressure sensor,(the one above the oil filter like you changed) my gauge read normally. I would look into if you bought the correct sensor for your car, ex.- sensor for gauge & not just dummy light. I'm not too sure about this so correct me if I'm wrong, I think the switch that is being refered to by the distributor is on older model camaros??? I could be wrong & I never looked back there. Or maybe that one is for the ECM. Your worst case scenario would be a failing oil pump
Signs of that would be hard starting or valvetrain noise gradually getting louder. You could check to see if you still have pressure by doing an old school trick I remember but its messy. Loosen the oil filter just a tad & crank the motor. If the oil pump is working & the motor is getting oil & pressure then oil should pump through where you loosened the oil filter. This is just from my personal experience so I'm sorry if any info is wrong. Hope this helps

I'm guessing it's my oil pressure guage because I just put in a new cluster a month or so ago and noticed this problem a week or so ago. maybe the guage was reading wrong and I didn't notice. I'm going to see about getting a new one (note to self-never throw something still useable away....
) But aybe i can pick one up for cheap. I'm going to pick up a mech gauge for in my manifold to try this out. I'm getting my oil changed on monday along with my auto tranny fluid (I know...i'm not getting it done by choice, my mom doesn't want oil on her driveway and she thinks they can tighten the oil filter better than i can... like they're using anything different
) Thanks for the advice though, i almost lost my mind trying to find that second sensor that in fct wasn't there...
