i have a block with a 10066036 casting number and it pulls up as a target/goodwrench crate motor block made in mexico, 2 peice seal. it doesnt say what year or anything and i was just wondering if this is just a basic pre-86 block. are these blocks any good? thanks in advance.

 

if it's a 2 piece seal it's got to be pre 86. my guess is it's a basic replacement engine.

ive heard of the mexico engines haveing cracking problems if you do a search its been said on here before but i dont think that all of them are bad personally .....ive had one before and never had a problem out of it at all except for a bad ring and that wasnt the blocks fault it was the yahoo that i bought it from

That is the "hencho en Mexico" crate engine. I believe that the "hencho en Mexico" part picked up after the Targetr line stopped production, although i am not certain about that. It is the type of engines that are designed for trucks. Crappy heads, crappy cam, about 250 hp, roughly low to mid 8's for compression as they are assembled with, i beleive, 76cc heads. Its the type of engine that oh, say, you get under a warranty replacement or possibly a fleet engine. Absolulty not a performance minded engine in any aspect. The block itself, i have HEARD that it is cast with a softer or lesser quality iron making it a weaker block, though i have no proof of that and cannot back up the validity of that statement. Just be careful.

Oh yes, almost forgot, it is a flat tappet camshaft style, as ede suggested.

As for the Doctor editing the Generals post, he changed "yahoo" to "gringo." In light of the fact that the block was "hencho en Mexico."

 

okay i get it now...funny ha ha ...LMAO gotta have a good sense of humor on here man ...lol...i wasnt all there we just got done doing a brake job on a 99 winstar and i was pretty tired and not all there (of course my wife says that im never all there)...lol

 

I blame it on the over-exposure to carb cleaner (my gf says the same about me )

 

that and open header exhaust fumes in the garage too much ...lol

 

you should be able to read of the age of the block as there is a date stamp on those blocks. It is on the side between cylinders 5 and 7 I think. Should be able to get you the month too. not sure of how to decode the numbers, so do a search on the internet for casting number decode etc, and you should find out how.
