IROC ?

What does IROC stand for, and what's the difference between an IROC and a Z-28?

International Race of Champions. IROC-Z is the nameplate that Chevy used for the Z-28's while the Camaro was the car used for the IROC race series.

International Race Of Champions, it was a racing circuit basically made for TV and the thirdgen camaro was the car raced in it from 1985 to 1990 till chevrolet lost the contract to the dodge avenger.

ya ya laugh it up, i knew that did not sound right. The important point was that it went from a pretty sweet GM body to a chrysler of all things.

When they produced both a IROC and a Z28 car, the IROC got the better 16" wheels, thicker roll bars, a extra "wonder" bar, and I think better springs both front and back too. I still hear rumors of 15" IROC wheels, although every IROC I've ever seen had your regular 16 inchers. The IROC is basically just an option package on the Z28, but they basically made the IROCs take the place of the Z28 from 88 to 90 I guess there was no "base" Z28 to be different those years. Someone correct if I'm wrong on anything.

Whatever the little details, you can definitely tell the difference between the two handling wise. My IROC is noticeably better but it does ride a little rougher (like I care). God knows the 16" IROC rims kick the crap out of the butt ugly 15" Z wheels. I ditched those suckers ASAP...

Hey Ray - I have the dreaded 15 inchers...I can post pics if you want. They are the older indented style although I wish they were the newer type or even ROH. I also have the **** poor 115mph speedo. I do have the wonder bar though but I'm unsure about my springs. :/
